Welcome to the 8th grade social studies class. Students in the eighth grade social studies program will be studying the following topics: U.S. History from Settlement to 1877.

Materials Needed:

a. 1 ½ - 2 inch Ring binder with pockets on the side
b. 1 box plastic page protectors (50 pages)
c. 2 Sharpened pencils
d. Pen; no red or gel pens
e. Small amount (25-30 sheets) of Loose leave paper
f. Glue stick
g. Color pencils
h. Pencil bag
i. Sm. Pencil sharpen
j. Highlighter
k. Homework folder with pocket on each side
l. Flash drive

Grading Policy is as follows:
Test and Projects 30%
Quizzes 20%
Homework 10%
Class work 30%
Participation 10%

Homework
1.Homework will be assigned 3-4 times per week.

2.All homework will be done in the binder with the following format:

Your Name:______________ Date: _________ Color/number____
Assignment: _____________________

3.All questions must be written out fully.

4.All answers must be in complete sentences.

5.Homework is due at the beginning of class.

* Homework will be either checked at the beginning of the class or collected and graded. Therefore, do your homework on a fresh sheet of paper.

6.After homework is graded and returned to the student, it will be put back in the notebook in the proper date order.

7.Case of absence, it is the responsibility of the student to do the following:

a.Get the assigned work from another classmate (i.e. notes, reading assignment etc.)

b.Come see me BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS OR TEAM TIME if you do not understand the work assignment(s) or to get a ditto that was given out in class.

c.E-mail me the day you are absent for assignments missed.

Class Participation
1.This portion of your grade will consist of both your class participation and your work done in class.

Make-Up Work
1.The school rules will be strongly followed with regards to make up work:

a.THE SCHOOL RULE STATES:
Absent one day = One day to make up work
Absent two days = Two days to make up work

2.All work not made up in a timely fashion will be considered late and a zero will be received.

Late Work:
1.Work one day late is an automatic 50

2.More than one day late will result in an automatic zero.
